About Connection Capital

Why should I join the Connection Capital syndicate?

Joining our syndicate means you will be able to access and invest in our carefully sourced, unique alternative investment opportunities in units of £25,000. These opportunities are usually only available to institutional sized clients often with prohibitive minimum investment levels.

As a member of our syndicate you will also be invited to regular workshops to meet our team and learn more about our live investment opportunities. These informal events, mainly held in our London office, cover such topics as asset allocation, private equity, private debt, commercial property and alternative asset funds.

Are there fees to join?

It is free to join our syndicate and become a Connection Capital client. You can register here.

Due to FCA regulations, we just need to verify that you can be classed as an Elective Professional Client before we can share details of our live deals with you.

How established is Connection Capital?

Connection Capital launched in 2010 to offer experienced investors access to returns unavailable through traditional asset classes. From its private equity origins, the business has grown its range of investment opportunities to include commercial property, private debt and top performing alternative asset funds. We believe the range, quality and management of our investments is unmatched in the market.

What is our track record?

As at 31 December 2018 Connection Capital clients had invested £250m across 74 investments and been returned £92m via distributions and 15 successful exits.

About our investments

What are the types of investments Connection Capital offer?

We specialise in alternative investments. We believe these offer private investors the potential to enhance returns, reduce volatility and improve portfolio diversification beyond traditional asset classes like listed equities and bonds. We specialise in private equity, private debt, commercial property and funds operating niche strategies which are uncorrelated with the main markets. Clients can invest directly on a deal-by-deal basis.

What is the minimum investment?

Generally, you can invest in each of our alternative investments in multiples of £25,000. The choice on whether to invest in a specific opportunity or not is always yours.

How does the investment process work?

Once you become a Connection Capital client we will send you notification of live alternative investment opportunities. This will include detailed information on each deal in the form of an Investment Proposal. If you want to participate, then just let us know by email or phone. We will confirm your pledge in writing and provide a date by which your funds are required.

How long is the fundraising process for an investment?

This depends on each individual investment opportunity. It could be as little as two weeks or as long as three months. We have a good understanding of the type of alternative investments our clients like and as a result our investment opportunities tend to be popular. Each fundraising is operated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, so if you are interested in an investment please let us know sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

Are the investments risky?

All investments come with risk and the performance of an investment cannot be guaranteed. Alternative investments are less ‘liquid’ than listed equities as they are less readily tradeable. Investments in single companies are clearly less diversified than investments spread across many companies/trades. We aim to balance the risks with the potential returns available.

Deal specific risks are always explained in each Investment Proposal.

How can investors track their performance?

We produce Investment Reviews for each individual investment twice a year. These include an update on the performance of the company, property or fund over the review period and an up to date valuation.

For third party funds, where managers may report more frequently, we add factsheets to our secure portal when they become available.

You can generate a valuation of your Connection Capital portfolio at any time on our secure portal. We are also always available to answer any questions you have.

Why can’t I see any live deals on the website?

Due to confidentiality and FCA regulations we are only able to share details of live deals with registered clients. Once you’ve registered you will be able to see all our live alternative investment deals on our portal. We will also send you an email and SMS when new investment opportunities become available.

Do your deals have EIS?

In the past some of our deals have qualified under the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) rules, and we’d never rule it out, but it is an increasingly rare occurrence. This is due to the fact most of the companies we make investments into are more established or larger than the EIS rules permit.
