Connection Capital, the specialist private client investment business, has appointed Anas Afzal as Fund Associate in its Alternative Funds team as appetite from private investors for access to alternative fund strategies continues to grow at record levels.

  • Anas Afzal joins as Fund Associate from Aberdeen Standard
  • Alternative fund strategies in high demand from private investors looking to diversify portfolios

Anas joins from Aberdeen Standard where he was a Portfolio Analyst on the Fixed Income team. Prior to that he worked as a data scientist at a fintech start-up. Anas holds an MA in Accounting and Finance from the University of Aberdeen and an MSc in Financial Technology from the University of Strathcylde.

Anas will work alongside Head of Funds, Lorna Robertson, to source and identify specialist fund managers that we believe will be attractive to our clients and complementary to our existing fund portfolio which spans strategies from private credit to venture capital.

Anas comments: “Investment in private markets is at an all-time high and I am looking forward to sourcing and assessing exceptional fund opportunities for our private investor clients that provide something different from the crowd, whether that is strategy, execution or investment process.”

His appointments follows a highly active 2021 for Connection Capital’s Fund investment team which has seen Connection Capital clients make significant commitments into funds managed by 17Capital, SCIO Capital, Kestrel Partners and Permira Credit and venture strategies from Hambro Perks, IQ Capital and DN Capital.

Lorna Robertson commented “I am delighted Anas has joined the business. Connection Capital prides itself on helping private investors access specialist funds and strategies they would otherwise be unable to. His appointment means we will be able to increase our offering and the breadth of strategies we can provide for those seeking diversification from public markets and targeting the superior returns which alternative fund strategies can deliver.”

Connection Capital’s Fund Investments team focuses on alternative fund strategies and asset classes which are typically: difficult for private investors to access directly; uncorrelated with conventional equity and bond markets; operated by proven specialists; and which can enhance overall investor portfolio diversification. Capital commitments to funds are typically between £3m-£10m.
