What is an elective professional client?

What does 'elective professional client' mean?

Looking to invest?

An elective professional client is a client who states in writing that they wish to be treated as a professional client for the purposes of making investments. By definition an elective professional client cannot also be classed as a retail client.

A firm (for example an investment company) can categorise clients as elective professional clients when it is satisfied that the client has adequate experience and understanding of making their own investment decisions and understanding the risks involved.

Elective professional clients may give up some of the protections afforded to retail investors and must state they are aware of the implications of this. More information on elective professional clients can be found on the FCA website.

At Connection Capital, due to the types of investments we offer, we can only deal with elective professional clients and not retail investors.
